Biography

Dr. D. V. Gupta, Professor of Mathematics  at the  College of Allied Sciences ,COER University, Roorkee , joined the institute on 01 July 1999 as one of its founding faculty members. Over more than  past 25 years, he has served the institution with dedication and distinction, taking on key roles such as Head of the Department of Mathematics and Dean of Basic Sciences & Humanities.

Dr. Gupta earned both his Ph.D. in Mathematics and M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), establishing a strong academic foundation. A prolific scholar, he has authored over 47 research papers published in esteemed national and international journals and conferences. His contributions include 3 books on Engineering Mathematics, 4 book chapters, 2 patients and numerous other academic articles. He has also supervised a faculty member who earned a Ph.D. from HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar.

A recipient of the National Scholarship and multiple accolades, Dr. Gupta has been honored with the “Motivation Award” eight times for achieving 100% results in Mathematics at COER.

His career reflects a remarkable blend of academic expertise, administrative acumen, and a deep commitment to student development. He has extensive experience teaching engineering and multidisciplinary students, managing academic departments, and leading student-centered initiatives. As Dean, Dr. Gupta has demonstrated visionary leadership, fostering the growth and success of both his departments and the institution as a whole. His educational philosophy centers on key pillars: high-quality instruction, effective knowledge dissemination, strong communication, academic discipline, an ethical work culture, and fostering healthy faculty-student relationships—all vital to cultivating a vibrant academic ecosystem.

Before joining COER, Dr. Gupta served for nearly 12 years at Adarsh Bal Niketan, Senior Secondary School, University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), where he held pivotal roles including Lecturer, Vice-Principal, and Principal. Altogether, he brings more than 38 years of rich and diverse experience in teaching Mathematics at both school and higher education levels. A passionate educator, Dr. Gupta continually inspires his students to aim high and persevere.

He often shares the enduring words of inspiration: “Heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.”  - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

He also echoes the timeless call of Swami Vivekananda: “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.”
