They are also equipped with hydro turbines such as Pelton and Francis, as well as pumps. Students get practical experience with flow measurement devices, pumps, and hydraulic machines, deepening their understanding of fluid dynamics and its engineering applications.
Applied Thermodynamics Lab
The Applied Thermodynamics Lab in the Mechanical Department is dedicated to teaching the fundamental principles of thermodynamics and their application in machinery and power plants. Equipped with engines, boilers, and refrigeration models, students gain practical insights into real-world problems, enhancing their understanding of power cycles and refrigeration analysis.
Measurement and Metrology Lab
The lab is well-equipped and enables students to understand the fundamentals of various measuring instruments. The experimental objective is to expose the students to various mechanical measuring devices and to understand the level of accuracy obtained from different types of instruments. The lab has equipment such as profile projectors, Vernier calipers, slip gauges, sine bars, and bevel protectors.
Heat and Mass Transfer Lab
The lab is well-equipped with calibrated equipment and enables students to understand the basics of heat transfer modes: conduction, convection, and radiation. Major equipment in the Heat Transfer Lab includes a thermal conductivity of insulating powder apparatus, Pin-Fin apparatus, vertical tube losing heat under natural convection, emissivity measurement apparatus, Stefan-Boltzmann apparatus, and parallel and counter flow heat exchanger.
Referigeration And Air Conditioning Lab
The lab is well-equipped and enables students to understand the basics of refrigeration and air conditioning. The students get trained and motivated to do research and to practice the technologies in the field of Thermal Engineering with Specialization in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning.
Major equipments in this Lab are Refrigeration and air conditioning unit, and cut-section models of Reciprocating and Rotary Refrigerant compressor.
Theory of Machines Lab
The Theory of Machines Lab aims to impart practical knowledge on the design and analysis of mechanisms for specified types of motion in machines. Through the study of rigid body motions and forces in transmission systems, students can gain a comprehensive understanding of machine kinematics and dynamics.
Workshop Practice Lab
The lab is well-equipped and enables students to understand the concepts of carpentry, sheet metal, machining, fitting, welding, blacksmithing, and casting both theoretically and practically. Students create projects related to these areas, gaining exposure to different raw materials, tools, and equipment used in these shops, as well as CNC machines and additive manufacturing technologies..
Material Science and Technology Lab
Material Science and Technology Lab is well-equipped and enables students to understand the basic structure of materials. Major equipment in the Material Science Lab includes microscopes, heat treatment furnaces and polishing machines. Other testing facilities to measure the hardness, impact, and tensile stress properties of materials include the Brinell hardness test, Izod and Charpy tests, and tensile testing machines.
Manufacturing Science and Technology Lab
The Manufacturing Science Lab aims to expose students to various manufacturing processes such as casting and forming. The experiments performed in the lab include pattern design, making and casting, tube bending, grain size analysis of sand using a sieve shaker, and sand strength testing. These hands-on activities help students gain practical knowledge and skills essential for understanding and mastering different manufacturing techniques.
Strength of Materials Lab
The main objective of this lab is to determine the properties of engineering materials and their testing procedures for undergraduate students through various required experiments. These properties are useful for students in subjects like Strength of Materials and Basic Mechanical Engineering. Major properties are determined using related experiments such as tensile tests, compressive tests, hardness tests, impact tests, torsion tests, and bending tests.
