The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India, organized a State-Level Training Programme on Energy Efficient Retrofit of Existing Buildings at Hotel Solitaire, Dehradun. The event saw active participation from 24 students and 3 faculty members of the Civil Engineering Department, COER University among 60+ overall participants from all the other institutes. The programme aimed to:
- increase understanding and awareness about energy efficiency among building stakeholders.
- offer practical insights into energy-efficient retrofits. This will also include walkthrough of energy audits and energy conservation measures (ECMs).
- provide Case studies from various climate zones, showcasing successful energy-efficient buildings and potential of retrofits.
- collaborate among state and local authorities, building owners and other stakeholders to implement energy-efficient practices.
BEE official, Mr. Anupam Bhuttan, Senior Manager, GRIHA Council, emphasized the importance of energy conservation in retrofitting existing infrastructure and addressed current energy challenges. Participants explored passive solutions, such as building envelope improvements, energy conservation measures for walls, roofs, and fenestration, and the significance of air tightness and cool roofs. This was followed by sessions on integrating renewable energy, return on investment (RoI) analysis, and practical insights into active retrofit solutions, including lighting and HVAC retrofits, smart automation, and cost-effective energy conservation measures.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session and Quiz competition, where two students of COER University won the prize.
